Extraordinary X-Men #3 |
The bonds of time in space and even other dimensions aren’t going to be enough to keep the mutants from re-uniting, all these and more in pages of
Extraordinary X-Men number #3. Let’s hop in and see what happens next, shall we? The comic opens up in the mysterious
X-Haven, only it’s not so mysterious anymore. Turns out,
Storm and the rest of the teachers to avoid human violence against mutants decided to move the entire school inside
Limbo and while the real estate might be to die for the neighbors and their little ornery mainly because their
Demons are now attacking the school.
Storm and
Iceman do everything they can to turn the tide of the battle but this is a very losing proposition right now. Everyone else in
X-Haven is either untrained or too sick to fight the
Demon horde.
From there we transit over to
Logan who is having a meet-up with
Jean Grey of
Earth-TRN240 for the first time. Shockingly these two actually have a lot in common seeing as they are both displaced, one from the time and one from is their own
Universe.
Logan goes on to say he actually is probably doing less damage sitting around here and now the young
Jean seeing him realizing as the
Wolverine that died in this timeline wasn’t actually him. She tries to get Logan to join up with the rest of the
X-Men as they could really use all the help they could get right about now. And doing so, she probes her mind and sees the horrible event of
Old Man Logan, how he was tricked by
Mysterio to killing all the other members of the
X-Men, the
Hulk-Gang and his family etcetera.

Old Man's Tragedy |
Back in the Limbo, the turn of fight starts to turn into our heroes favor as the little girl that
Illyana saved from
India named
Sapna, seems to have the amazing power to manipulate the
Demons of
Limbo and have them moved to her will, which is pretty cool but also pretty terrifying at the same time.
Iceman also takes this opportunity to get creative. It seems that he’s created an army of sentient snow men who will follow his every command. This is interesting too because we saw the evil version of the
Iceman from the future using similar powers to create ice-doubles. Well, technically the evil one was an ice-double here.

Reign in Limbo |
Logan finally breaks down, reveals to young
Jean why he’s refused to join the
X-Men and surprisingly itself, it’s out of fear. You see, he killed his world’s
X-Men and he thinks that the
Universe will punish him by course-correcting and having him killed in this world’s
X-Men as well if he ends up getting too close to them.
Jean fires back by saying all these guilt in destiny stuff is nothing but some bullsh*t and if she’s not afraid to join the team even though every version of
Jean Grey has died while being part of the
X-Men, then he shouldn’t be afraid either.

Destiny and Fate! |
Storm and the other teachers make a valiant effort to get all the displaced mutants into the
X-Mansion safe rooms underneath but despite their very best efforts it’s clear that this battle is most certainly lost.
Storm gets pinned down by one of the
Demons during the battle and she hears
Professor Charles Xavier telling her to get up and fight, then sees him either in an illusion or vision. That is until the cavalry arrives in the form of
Logan and
Marvel Girl who come to help along with
Cerebra.

A Mentor's Shadow |
Marvel's
Extraordinary X-Men issue #3 was pretty good; it was definitely a more action-heavy issue than the other two but still managed to pull it together in the end. The real showcase piece here was of course,
Old Man Logan chatting up with young
Marvel Girl, finding out of that they have more in common than you might think. The dynamic between these two heroes was one of the most beloved in all of comics and it’s fun to see
Jeff Lemire (
Sweet Tooth,
The Nobody) putting another twist on the whole thing. You know, instead of
Wolverine mentoring another young girl, the tables have been turned in and it’s a young girl proving to be a mentor to an older
Wolverine, also while they drop a huge little nugget of information in this issue as well. It turns out
Scott Summers, the older
Cyclops that we know died while fighting the
Inhumans. There is also a fun little gag in here too where
Logan jokes about the
X-Haven being situated on space now and what a silly idea that is. Overall, I can freely recommend you to read this one out because with a slowly growing well written story, the exquisite art from artist
Humberto Ramos (
Amazing Spider-Man,
Crimson) is like a cherry on top.
